The Review
I order one of these as a present for my sister for her home-made 4.5" f/7.9 parabolic Dob. I tested it on my Discovery 8" f/6 Dob against a 12.5mm U.O.
Ortho using a Celestron Ultima Barlow (2x). Under those conditions, magnification is 195x. Pro-Optic is the house brand of Adorama and is made in Taiwan. They are advertised as multicoated with blackened lens edges.
ORDERING Pretty easy on-line. Really inexpensive too at $25. Got gouged on shipping, though, at $8.
APPEARANCE Eye lens appeared green. Casing is plastic with some scratches. Appears cheap. Barrel threaded for filters.
TESTING After leaving the scope out for several hours, tested on Saturn, Jupiter. Very clear. No moon. Both oculars resolved A, B and faint C rings. Cassini division was obvious. Ekne division was barely visible. Banding on disk was apparent. UO
Ortho may have been very slightly sharper, but Pl. projected a slightly larger image due to wider apparent field of view. On Jupiter, both revealed subtle cloud patterns and plainly showed the GRS in prime viewing position. Pl. was ghost free while the
Ortho had slight ghosting, which negated any superior resolution.
CONCLUSION Maybe the best eyepiece bargain around. Cheap looking, but optically very good.
